Pre-K Curriculum, 4 Year Olds

  • At 4 years old, children are preparing for school. We get them ready to go.

Little Owl Learning Academy is a tight-knit community where we prepare your growing 4 year old for kindergarten. Our Creative Curriculum is designed around monthly themes with hands-on activities. Children learn social skills, math, literacy and life skills. Everything your child learns each day is reinforced and extended throughout the year to prepare them for school.

Creative Curriculum is Little Owl Learning Academy’s proprietary developmentally appropriate curriculum and supporting programs, methods, activities and techniques help better prepare children for life. Creative Curriculum gives your child a happier, healthier, more well-rounded foundation for the future. In other words, what children learn at Little Owl Learning Academy will help to prepare them for school and for their future.

At Little Owl Learning Academy, we continue the learning process throughout the entire day. Your child will interact with peers and teachers in small and large groups. Through our Creative Curriculum children will work at their own pace but will never become bored. They will have the opportunity to learn in our learning centers as well as our age-appropriate playground.

Little Owl Learning Academy understands that 4 year olds are eager to learn new things. They love to make new friends and are excited to learn new things each day.

  • Areas of Development

The Creative Curriculum focuses on your 4-year-old child's primary areas of development.
    Language Arts and Literacy

At 4 years old, children understand that they can put letters together to make words, and words together to make sentences. Your child will practice writing skills while writing his name and simple words. We let your child lead the way as our expert teachers give encouragement to help your child grow.

In the Creative Curriculum, your child will sort and count object. Your 4 year old will participate in charting objects, completing patterns and measuring things with conventional and nonconventional measuring tools.

At 4 years old, children are full of wonder! Children begin to focus on weather patterns and begin observations. They plant seeds and record the growth, learn the importance of keeping the earth clean and how to recycle at school and home.

    Social and Emotional Development

Children begin to understand the meaning of friendship by the time they’re 4 years old. They begin identifying their feelings. At Little Owl Learning Academy we encourage children to discuss their feelings so that they may begin to develop empathy for their friends.

    Gross and Fine Motor Development

At 4 years old, children have good control of their fine motor skills. They use crayons to turn scribbles into letters and words. They can zip, button and snap their own clothes. During Family Style Dining, 4 year olds will serve themselves, passing food to others and use forks and spoons to eat.
Little Owl Learning Academy teachers also encourage fine motor development by providing appropriate for each child. Children are encouraged to practice writing, and some of those scribbles will begin to resemble letters and words. Children are also given the opportunity to feed themselves during our family style meals, participating in cleaning up, and washing their hands.

    Character Education

At Little Owl Learning Academy we believe it is important to introduce children to a wide variety of character traits. Each month we focus on a character value, such as honesty, generosity or patience, to help children better understand the society we live in and to help them develop into caring adults.
